Out the front knives come in two varieties:
  • Single action knives automatically extend --generally by pushing a button-- but must be manually retracted (generally there is a way to push or pull in the blade). Single action knives are generally sturdy and inexpensive (compared to a similar double action knife).

  • Double Action knives automatically extend and retract by using a sliding button or lever. Double action knives are considered easier to use, but are more expensive (compared to a similar single action knife).
