The SCHOTF3 Viper Out-the-Front Assisted Opening knife from Schrade features a double-edge blade with a bead blast finish. The handle is dark gray finished aluminum with a safety, pocket clip and glass breaker. To deploy the blade, simply push on the slider near the base of the handle to get the blade moving and the spring assist mechanism will take it the rest of the way. To retract the blade, release the lock and pull down on the slider to lock it back in place. It is assisted automatic deployment and manual retraction.

Decent but not great

Had one of these for a while before giving it to a friend. I thought the safety was in a stupid place and getting my thumb all the way back to the butt of the knife to hit the firing switch was a pain in the ***. But the main problem I had with this knife is the 4000-series blade steel. It would not take or hold an edge worth a damn. It would be okay as a novelty letter opener but not much else and definitely not hard use. If you want a Schrade Viper, get one of the new ones with AUS8 steel and the firing buttons in a non-retarded place.

I had this same knife about a year ago and sold it on auction. I sold it, and missed it so much that I decided to replace it in my collection. this version is SOOO much improved. Absolutely zero blade wiggle, much better release lever, better glass breaker, all in all... don't buy another Italian otf if you have any. This knife is the best low cost otf knife ever!
