Lightning Black D/A OTF Automatic Knife - Satin Dagger

This is an unboxing review of this knife. Right out of the box the blade was pretty dull to my standards. I had to sharpen it.

I've seen reviews elsewhere about the knife not deploying consistently. So after about a dozen firings, the blade failed to deploy and I had to manually reset the blade so it could deploy again.

After sharpening the blade, I took the knife and stabbed a phone book very hard multiple times. The knife didn't fail.

For the price of $34.99 and free shipping to Hawaii, I can hardly complain about the little issues. I have yet to put the knife through the paces in normal daily use so it remains to be seen how the knife will perform in the long run. As of right now, I am happy with what I have.

My initial impression is that I would recommend this knife at the price point. I will be ordering more of these to give away.

I experienced a deployment issue right out of the box. The blade intermittently wouldn't fully deploy. I had to flick my wrist or pull on the blade to get it to lock.

This issue appears to be resolved by spraying oil in the opening while the blade was in the handle. Deployment is significantly faster. Lock up appears solid.

Lubricating the internal components also appears to resolve the majority of spring noise.

Despite the initial problems, I do not regret purchasing this knife. If I lose or break it, I won't hesitate to buy another.

Seen the reviews had to buy one to believe it and I sure did now I can say I'm a believer this lighting is solid built feels great in the hand also has slim to no wiggle from the blade out I'm happy I got this and plan to buy tons more as gifts for others to get that awesome feeling owning a otf knife for a great price

Had to buy one of these else where because Grindworx didn't have any. Everyone talks about this being a "cheap" OTF, price wise it is but I don't concider it "cheap." Razor sharp out the door and solidily built. If you like OTF's get one, period.

Ordered one of these about 2 years ago. It has been a great knife, but sadly has gone missing after some "friends" came over. I will definitely have to order another one soon. Came out of the packaging sharp, and ready to cut. It also has a smooth projection with the blade shooting out. The springs aren't strong enough to shoot through paper, but that isn't necessary.

Knife was delayed due to hurricane irma, when they finally delivered it it had been looted from the package by a postal employee. Blade play went above and beyond and had a replacement to me within 2 days. I will definitely be ordering from them again for my own collection and for gifts. Will be ordering a lightning for my wife shortly, she loves mine

Updated/Edited Review - 11/15/2019: The Lightning line of knives are well worth the the small investment, and then some. The action is strong, fast and reliable. They are real knives that perform real tasks and can take a real beating. I have found that the newer models have higher tolerances with much less blade play than the older models. Though they do still have just a bit of play both side to side and edge to spine which is acceptable when you're considering the reliability of blade deployment and retraction out in the field. In fact, it's the tolerances of these knives that helps prevent them from misfiring and jamming as a result of the infiltration of dirt, sand, pocket lint, and other debris. This misfiring and jamming out in the field is common among many of the higher end, high tolerance and expensive OTF-DA knives abound. I know this from first hand experience. The blades hold their edge quite well and are relatively easy to touch up and resharpen. The finish on the handles will eventually wear down in the areas that constantly get rubbed on, but this is to be expected. The handle texturing and jimping is a definite plus. The pocket clip is strong and keeps these knives securely in place. I would highly recommend the Lightning line of knives for EDC to anyone looking for a practical, tough and reliable OTF-DA knife design.

I was pleasantly surprised at this purchase. I had the fortune of getting it at a discount on cyber-Monday, so bonus! I am going to be buying these for birthday gifts this year!

For the price, you can't beat the Lightning. Sure, this isn't a $350 American made knife, but the quality is great for the money. Solid D/A, very little blade-play, and pretty sharp right out of the box! I've purchased 3 other "budget" OFT's prior to the Lightning, and I only wish I would have got this one first. I've since bought another and couldn't be happier with the purchases. Don't hesitate, get it!

For the price, this is an amazing OTF knife! The action is solid every time, knife comes decently sharp from the factory and not a whole lot of "wiggle" for an OTF of this price. I use mine at work building custom cabinets and its taken a little beating. But still fires true each and every time! If your looking or a dependable OTF, but don't want to worry about loosing or breaking an expensive knife, this is definitely the brand to choose! Highly recommend!
