Straight off, the quality of this knife is superb! It comes well-packaged in a plastic slip, inside an embossed leather pouch, inside a larger plastic sheath with certificate of authenticity, inside a sturdy, dedicated cardboard knife box!
First, that certificate of authenticity can just be tossed, because THE KNIFE speaks for itself in being authentic! Fit is outstanding down to the smallest details - the scales are tight, liners straight, bolsters tight and match-polished to the back spring. The entire knife is well-polished with no sharp edges and the rivets are even and well formed. The safety button is on the tight side, but will loosen up over time. Button release is crisp with no sensation of drag or ambiguity, and the spring feels to have a two-stage response that adds to the impression of attention to detail.
The blade snaps out cleanly and locks solid without feeling over-sprung. The 5.5" long blade is wider than classic stilettos, and over 3mm thick down the bayonet style spine - very sturdy indeed! Deployed next to a 13" classic stiletto the blade gives up little in length, is much broader, yet the handle is shorter. The knife tight when deployed, and the tiny pull ring is easy to grasp by full-size, sausage fingers, and the back spring releases easily. Closing is two-stage in that the spring snaps in behind the release stud first, then the blade follows - very interesting. The blade is perfectly polished and perfectly marked with A. G. A. Campolin's trademark...a piece of signed paper can never validate, nor invalidate a work of art such as this, though I certainly appreciate the add.
Seems like a lot of places carry A. G. A. Campolin knives but never in stock! I was luck to find this one.
Many will say a knife as beautiful as this is meant to be displayed or put away as a keepsake, but it's also a real knife, capable of being carried in a pocket and used as intended.
