The Guardfather features a stainless spike that shoots out the front of the handle. The release button is under the clip. The clip can be rotated to expose the button or to cover it, preventing accidental firing.

What do you do with the spike you ask? We have no idea. It could be used as an ice pick, glass breaker, or for lifting hot meat off a grill (we tried it, works great), and of course you can always "Jack Bauer" someone in self defense. This type of spike was featured in Fox's 24 television series. The spike is 440 stainless steel and the body is spiffy silver anodized aluminum. Shirt clip for easy carry.

This spike is awesome. Purchased 2, and they function perfectly. Not sure why a few others have had such difficulty. Picking up several more as gifts. Great product.

Good idea - bad product - I understand it is a lesser priced item but still, I expect the spring and locking mechanisms to be functioning properly - sent first one back for an exchange and the second one would go back for the same reasons but I would never get off that merry-go-round once I'm on it. Blade Play is awesome about exchanges but why put them through it too...

I chose the the silver, for me it was the ideal color. It seems like most people don't know what it is, and don't really give it a second look. It's stronger than the OTF knives, and safer to use. It's an automatic OTF ice pick, it's well built and dependable. I would say its well worth the price and should last a long time.
